La Jolla California
is host to a variety of special events in the area, some seasonal and others ongoing. Examples include the annual Buick Invitational PGA tournament at beautiful Torrey Pines Golf Course and the La Jolla Half-Marathon that starts at the fairgrounds and ends at La Jolla Cove. During the months of January – March, whale watching becomes a special event as visitors to La Jolla witness one of the marvels of nature as gray whales make their annual migration to the warm breeding grounds off Baja, California. Each month of the year holds several celebrations in town, such as special sports events, village fairs, and parades. Fiesta Cinco de Mayo - a patriotic Mexican celebration that brings thousands to San Diego Old Town where they can enjoy traditional food, dancing and historical reenactments. This festival takes place in the month of May.
Fleet Week San Diego celebrates the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard with a weeklong series of events and parades.
La Jolla Festival of the Arts – this popular event brings 200 award-winning artists, lots of good food and live entertainment for one of San Diego County’s top annual cultural events. The festival is usually held in June on the campus of La Jolla Country Day School.
Annual Greek Festival - enjoy authentic Greek food and entertainment at St. Spyridon Church in Hillcrest.
San Diego Wooden Boat Festival - see rowboats, sail boats, schooners at Koehler Kraft boatyard on Shelter Island. Tour the yachts, take a ride on a classic steamboat, learn how to build your own wooden vessel and admire some historical ships.
Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off – in June at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Newport Avenue. Includes chili, fireworks, live music and more.
Ninth Annual San Ysidro Festival & Chili Cook-Off in July. Includes a beer garden and live Mexican and Latin American music.
San Diego County Fair – A large annual event with rides, food, exhibits, animals, flowers, concerts, and lots of good old-fashioned fun.
Summer Nights at Sea World – special evening entertainment and spectacular fireworks.
San Diego Dixieland Jazz Festival – quality entertainment held Thanksgiving weekend with a wide variety of traditional jazz, Dixieland and swing styles. Large concert rooms and double dance floors. Held at the Town & Country Hotel and Convention Center.
